The Apostle Paul writes something very interesting and scary in Ephesians 6:12, “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
In other words, there are other dark powers and authorities, spiritual forces of evil such as Satan and demons (fallen angels) that seek to be worshiped and that are at war with God and humanity. There are false gods operating on this planet. Evil or sinfulness is at work in this world and there are men and women who have been influenced by these evil forces.
In Deuteronomy 32:17 – We read that the people sacrificed and worshiped demons.
In 1 Corinthians 10:20 Paul explains that the...sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons.
1 John 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
1 Peter 5:8 warns us “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
There are dark spiritual forces at work in our world that have every intention to deceive you and distract you from worshiping the one true God.
And the question I would have is that if you are not worshiping the one true God then whom are you worshiping?
I would say that the prospect of worshiping someone or something other than God is frightening at best.
