There's a lot of talk about hope and change these days. Unfortunately, so much of our hope gets put in things or people that will eventually disappoint or let us down. But the truth is that there is a living hope that will never disappoint or let us down. That living hope is Jesus Christ.
But let's stop for a second and think about what most people hope for. Most people hope for the power to change that which they can't change on their own. Most people desire to be the best that they can be so that they can know the joy of healthy relationships and experience a better way of life. But, if we're honest we simply lack the capacity to do this own our own.
Think about it. How many times have you tried to lose weight only to find yourself right back where you started? How many times have you tried to control your temper but ended up angry with your spouse or children? How many times have you told yourself you're going to tell the truth only to find yourself in another web of lies and deceit?
Until we finally acknowledge that we can't change on our own we will never change. But when we do we quickly find out that this is where real change actually begins.
That's where Jesus comes in. He offers us the power to transform our lives because he offers us forgiveness and grace from our former way of life. He offers love and acceptance like we've never experienced before. In fact, he offers himself. He promises to walk with us every step of the way and to never let us down.
And when you experience love and forgiveness like this, the fear that has kept you from change is cast out. Instead, you are filled with the love and capacity you need to change. You now have the power to become everything you've ever dreamed you'd become.
